The expected migration flows from the Central and Eastern European countries that joined in the European Union in 1st May 2004 and 1st January 2007 had caused fears in those old members of the union. Thus, they restrict access to their labour markets to workers from Eastern Europe for seven years of transitional period. Despite those fears, they did not experience massive migration flows. In fact, due to the low fertility and ageing population, EU is in the need of workers migration in order to sustain its growth level and increase the welfare

Thus, they restrict access to their labour markets to workers from Eastern Europe for seven years of transitional period. Despite those fears, they did not experience massive migration flows.
