In a country, the basic purpose of energy policy is to obtain sufficient energy without interruption, at the lowest cost, with methods lest hazardous to environment and in a reliable manner. With economic growth and development in consumption patterns in Turkey the demand for energy has increased, which is mostly met by foreign resources rather than national ones. This practice is the reason for which energy supply safety is always on the agenda. Supply safety of Turkey in the short term depends on more effective use of national resources, diversification of the countries from which primary energy sources, in particular natural gas, is being imported, and introduction of alternative energy investments like nuclear energy which decreases foreign-source dependency. This paper analyses energy production and consumption, foreign-source dependency for energy and energy supply safety in Turkey
