Özet:

This paper examines the names given to children born in Kırklareli in 2013. Data was obtained from the Kırklareli public Records Office for the children born in 2013. Their given names were studied in terms of origins, conceptual areas, spelling, persons of reference, time of birth, number of siblings, whether the name signifies a wish, the child's gender, harmony between given name and family name, alphabetical frequency, and the number of times each name was given. According to the analysis of the data, given names of children born in Kırklareli in 2013 had origins in the Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, Italian, Mongolian, Greek, Latin, French. English, Polish and Slovakian languages. Conceptual areas varied from feelings to minerals, religion and history. Name dictionaries were often consulted, but there were spellings that were based on pronunciation. There were children Yrd. Doç. Dr., Kırklareli Üniversitesi, Fen Edebiyat Fakültesi, Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı Bölümü, [email protected] Kırklareli Üniversitesi, Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü YL Öğrencisi, [email protected] named after persons of historical or religious significance, and religious days, seasons, names of days and months were used in naming the child. Whether the child had any siblings was observed when naming the child. Wishes that influenced the choice of name include the child's survival, privilege and a long, happy life. Gender roles were observed and 213 given names were boy's names, and 210 were girl's names. Parents paid attention to rhyming between the beginning of the given and family names, the end of both names, and the end of the given name and beginning of family name; harmony of the meanings of the two names was also a consideration. The letter A was the most frequent first letter of the given name with 50 instances, followed by the letter B with 42. The most common names were Nur (33) and Zeynep (30).
