The reformist movements, starting with Tanzimat, firstly occur in the field of military. The social worries show the necessity of reforms in the women's life. The idea of women’s change, creates another dimension of expected success in the military field during Tanzimat era. With the beginning of this idea, the salvation of the Ottoman Empire depends on the change of women. All of these progresses are questioned by the authors of the period. Especially authoresses advise of modernization of women and they determine the boundaries of ideal woman with the idea of ‘new women’ perception in the novels. With the Westernization period the women change becomes fast but this transformation goes in an unplanned way. Some writers push women to the area of men to take the same rigts of men. On the other hand, the writers who object to this idea, believe that women should stay in their area despite modernization. This study focuses on the concepts of ‘ideal women’, ‘mannish women’ which were mentioned by women writers in the novels of Republican era.
