Abstract:

Erden (1996), defines social studies as studying area that essential knowledge, ability, attitude and values are made the students gain in order to bring up responsible citizens in primary schools. Social studies Social studies lesson is one of the lessons that is taught in primary and secondary levels. It takes its subjects from real life and in this respect it becomes intertwined with life. In social studies lesson, the students are made experience real life problems and cause them to gain the abilities of problem solving, critical and creative thinking, sharing problem solving suggestions, cooperating and participating to the discussions actively. In social studies lesson, it is made use of different social sources in the process of making students experience real life problems. The concept of current events is one of these sources and it is important in both developing the thinking abilities of students and interpreting the past and future. In this study that is carried out in the sense of current events, it is tried to evaluate with the teacher view whether the current events are enough in textbooks or not.
