The aim of this study is to identify student perceptions on the concepts related to the history subjects included in the elementary fourth grade social studies course program and coursebook. Descriptive method was used in the study. Twenty-two concepts included in the fourth grade coursebook were asked as survey questions to 200 elementary fourth graders in the central districts of Erzurum province, and they were also asked to write what they understood from these concepts. It was found that in general, the students did not experience problems with the concepts of chronology, war, homeland, tradition, victory, front line, war of independence and occupation. They had difficulty mostly in the concepts of national forces, combat and attack.
