Multiculturalism is a socio-cultural phenomenon that became widespread due to the criticisms made against modern societies and nation-state models spcecifically after 1980s. Multiculturalism has the potentials to affect economic and political developments in the future, as much as and due to the fact that it is a result of the developments of such economic and political changes. The fundamentals of multicultural thought in Turkey are gone through in this paper with respect to different historical approaches that seem opposite to each other. It can be thought that the multiculturalism discussions that seem to have been revived since the end of the 20th century might take to a common upper-identity that could be named as Turkishness.
