Rawls ve onun liberalizmi toplumsal sözleşme geleneğine dahildir. Rawls’un toplumsal sözleşmesi, başlangıç durumunda bilgisizlik peçesi ardındaki adalet ilkelerine bağlıdır. Bu ilkeler, metafizik temelleri gerekli kılar. Bir başka deyişle, böylesi metafizik temellerin zorunluluğu varsayılmaksızın siyasal liberalizmin ikna ediciliği zayıflayacaktır. Bu bağlamda, eğer metafizik temeller liberalizm için bir zorunluluksa, bir soru önem kazanır: bu temeller neden Kantçı olmalıdır? Bu çalışma, yanıta doğru atılmış bir adımdır. Bu metinde John Rawls’un adalet anlayışının Kantçı temelleri irdelenecek ve bu temellerin Rawls’un siyasal liberalizm düşüncesindeki zorunluluğu tartışılacaktır.
