Abstract:

All people either with disabilities or with no disability face different obstructions during their lives that impose certain limitations and try to cope with one or a few of the biological, psychological and social problems. In this study, it was tried to put forth the effects of religion on disability from a biopsychosocial perspective while the effects of religion on other health problems that individuals face were tried to be explained from the basis of previous scientific studies in order to show more clearly the effect area of religion in human lives. Even though there are many models for understanding the effects of religion on human lives, the “biopsychosocial model” developed by Cohen and Koenig (2003) was preferred in this study. In addition, literature survey method was used in this study. In this context, the effects of religion in a more general manner on the lives of people and in a more special manner on the disabled were tried to be put forth in the light of studies that examine the benefits of religion under different headings such as medicine, gerontology, psychology and religion psychology etc. It was determined as a result of the studies carried out that people use religious coping methods when faced with various problems during some periods of their lives and thus overcome the physical, mental and emotional problems they face or minimize them.
