Abstract:

Cinema has acquired many companion for itself on its journey of creating meaning, criticizing and transforming reality. Especially, by carrying yesterday to today and tomorrow through mythological heroes, cinema invites us to question with the perception of reality that it tries to recreate. Within the scope of the study, the movie series Hunger Games, in which mythology and cinema are together, was examined and the transformation of a mythological hero into a dystopian hero was revealed. With this adaptation, which is considerably made faithful to the original myth, cinematic projection of heroic story that has been a subject of myth was examined. At this stage, semiotic method was used. In the movie series where the leading character was composed with the inspiration of a Greek myth, it was objected to create characters who have the courage to transform society by increasing social awareness by means of myth. Indeed, at the end of movie series, there was a transformation just like in the myth. At this point, the cooperation between cinema and mythology reached its objective and mass of questioning individuals has been constructed.
