Abstract:

Today states extremely compete with each other to ensure that the olympic games will be organized in their own country. This situation attracts notice to examine olympics academically. Olympics are short term and temporary; yet the legacy of olympics to city affects the future of the city. This constitutes one of the biggest attractions of the olympics. If a city utilizes olympics as a good opportunity, it is possible to provide many profits firtsly in economics. However the olympic games has significiant contribituons to the city on the other hand it is subjected to the opposition of many city-dwellers. The reason of this opposition is the negative results of these games to the city. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of olympic games both positive and negative aspects to the city and build a broad perspective. In this respect, the study consists of two parts. In the first part of the study olympic games are evaluated in the context of different aspects as examined in literature. The seconda part examines negative and positive effects of olympic games to the city within the economic, political, spatial, tourism and social dimensions and examples are given. In this study, it is concluded that the olympic games include threats beside opportunities for the city.
