Abstract:

Our country has got important quantity of industrial minerals and calcite is one of them and is used as filler in the industries such as plastics, rubber, and paint, to gain a variety of features to products. In order to use calcite as filler, some specific physical and physicochemical properties are required. It should be milled to micronized size and have a hydrophobic property and a high degree of whiteness. Due to the hydrophilic nature of calcite, after grinding fine and very fine sizes, product of micronized calcite usually could not be used directly such as plastic industries. Therefore, hydrophilic micronized calcite products should be made hydrophobic with a surface modification (coating) process which is a technical requirement. For this reason today, the coating process has become an important study in terms of the product development and improvement for micronized calcite facilities. In this article, micronized calcite production, coating and information for some tests and analyzes for coated calcite are given
