The aim of this study is to analyze the perceptions the teacher candidates have with respect to the concept of the technology through the use of metaphors. The study group consists of 296 teacher candidates from Siirt University Education Faculty enrolled in 2014-2015 education year. 177 of them are from science education and 119 of them are from computer and educational instructional technologies department. The data of the study have been obtained by way of questionnaires. In the analysis of the data, mean, standard deviation and t-test analyses techniques have been used. According to the findings of this study, teacher candidates produce metaphors related to technology and these metaphors can be conceptually categorized into two as useful and harmful technology. Useful technology metaphors are “communication device”, “bread”, “vitamin”, “high speed train”, “education”, “mind”, and “adventure”. Harmful technology metaphors are “disease”, “bomb”, “swamp”, “drugs” and “nuclear weapons”. Among the views of teacher candidates, there are no differences with respect to gender and department has been determined. It was established that technology concepts were regarded by teacher candidates as useful technology at medium levels and harmful technology at low levels.
