Sanayi Devrimi ile kadınların işgücü piyasasına katılımı başlamış ve zaman içinde artmış ve çeşitlenmiştir. Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu tarafından yayınlanan Hanehalkı İşgücü Anket sonuçlarına göre 2004 yılında kadın istihdam oranı yüzde 20.8 iken 2013 yılında yüzde 27.1’e yükselmiştir. Bu altı puanlık artış, kadın istihdamının toplam istihdam içindeki payına bakıldığında 4 puanlık bir artışa denk düşmektedir. Türkiye genelinde toplam istihdam içinde kadının payı 2004 yılında yüzde 25,7 düzeyindedir, 2013’te ise bu oranın yüzde 29.9’a yükseldiği görülmektedir. 2016 Mart döneminde ise bu oran %31,6 olarak gerçekleşmiştir. Ancak çalışan kadın sayısının bu denli artmasına karşın, üst düzey yönetici ve liderler arasında kadınların sayısı halen istenilen düzeyde gözükmemektedir. Bunun nedeni ise çalışma hayatında kadın çalışana çıkarılan gizli engelleri ifade eden cam tavandır (Karakuş, 2014). Bu çalışma ile cam tavanı aşan kadın yöneticilerin kariyer öyküleri incelenerek karşılaştıkları kraliçe arı sendromu, süper kadın sendromu ve iş-yaşam dengesi gibi cinsiyete dayalı kariyer engelleri ve bu engelleri nasıl aştıkları ortaya konmaya çalışılacaktır. Cam tavanı aşan kadınların kariyer öykülerine ilişkin ikincil veri kaynakları içerik analizine tabi tutulacaktır.
