The purpose of this study is to understand student absenteeism in vocational schools. Vocational schools traditionally least preferred educational organizations in Turkish educational context. For that reason generally students with low academic achievement levels prefer these schools and there was already high student absenteeism rates in these schools. Due to the educational reform that put into action in 2012-2013 these schools faced with the increased number of students who would possibly leave the schools. As the 12 years of education was not compulsory up to that time. Since it can be assumed that students who would normally leave the school if it would be not compulsory may have an effect on school culture and student behaviors, this change is the base rational for investigation of student absenteeism in vocational school which was investigated in some studies before the reform. In this study, five sub-question were developed “what are the reasons for school absenteeism arise from school? What are the reasons for school absenteeism arise from family? What are the reasons for school absenteeism arise from teacher and lessons? What are the reasons for school absenteeism arise from students’ social and economic conditions? And what are the reasons for school absenteeism arise from physical and psychological condition of the students?” Data gathered by questionnaire, that is consist of 20 question, three of them are asking for demographic information and 17 of them are about absenteeism reasons. In total 131 vocational school students from different departments participated in study. As a descriptive research, results are given by frequencies, percentages and for the sake of simplicity by pie cart diagrams. Finally results were discussed, according to the five sub-questions.
