Abstract:

Vehicle writings so called as “vehicle folklore, vehicle literature, writings behind the trucks, drivers’ maxims, writings behind the cars/on the buffers” can be assessed as an element of folk culture as well as a way of communication. It is observed that vehicle writings encountered in traffic are the subject of written sources, social networking sites, news bulletin and movies. Around 600 vehicle writings in this paper were compiled and studied during the voyages mostly from Artvin and Osmaniye between the years 2016 and 2018. In these writings, only the name of the person, only their surnames, their names and surnames, jobs, nicknames, names of their children, favourite football teams (name, emblem), their hometown, moods, values, emotions and thought, criticism, religious understanding, prays, challenges, advices, life experiences and information of their vehicles (brand, model, color) are included. Apart from this, it is noticed that lyrics of songs and Türkü, proverbs, idioms and maxims are benefitted for these writings. In these writings generally created with a few words or a short sentence and with different type fonts, artistic expressions, characteristics of local dialects, rhymed utterances and humorous narratives are used. Besides, it is seen that one part of vehicle writings is written with foreign languages or different alphabets.
