When publications of studies carried out to date are reviewed, the number of prehistoric settlements in Turkey, especially those on the surface of the ground (open air sites), seem very few. Geomorphological factors are very obvious among the causes for this situation. Detection of above-ground archaeological features is not difficult. Finding evidence for past human behaviors in home base or stopping locations which have been deeply buried by sedimentation over long periods is difficult. A surface survey on and around basalt geomorphological structures in Adana and Hatay was carried out during the summers 2016 and 2017, with the permission the General Directorate of Cultural Assets and Museums, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Cultural. The survey, named the “Early Prehistory and Cilicia Basalt Locations Project”, focused on prehistoric periods, and found very important evidence for the prehistory of Adana. This paper will present evidence, both from above ground level and from alluvial openings, which is very important for prehistoric people in Adana.
