Abstract:

Along with evolving technology, new communication technologies create an environment that enables them to share their thoughts, products and works they create with masses. This virtual environment is characterized as social media and covers a wide area of communication from all directions. So much so that conversations among people left their place to messaging. When recent researches are examined, people show that they try to meet almost all needs in this virtual reality, social media, and they live their communication in social media. They also make social, media, friendship, reading and research needs as well as the prevalence of shopping from social media. In this study, the purpose of using the internet with social media is emphasized. It has been researched how the social media’s ability to acquire information, which is one of the objectives of internet use, is used for university students. For this purpose, a questionnaire was applied to students of Kocaeli University Aeronautics and Space Faculty and the social media were tried to determine the purpose of gathering information and their use level. Statistical techniques were used as the analysis method.
