This paper aiming to develop a methodology for establishing a strong bond between heritage protection and sustainable local development, examined the project development, implementation and impact assessment process of conservation practice in the city of Kozan / Turkey. The examination revealed that local communities consider heritage protection as a component of local pride and give total support, that protection of cultural heritage brings new opportunities for local economy and that residents can put their city on the map through cultural heritage. In accordance with sustainability components of social and physical effects, the study revealed that Kozan Municipality achieved most of the indicators, however in terms of economic effects it is still early to thoroughly define how cultural heritage management contributed to local economy.
