Disease ise one of the most common experiences in a person's life. Psychological influences exist in each of the diseases. The disease is usually a threat to the individual by inducing emotional states such as fear, sadness, anger, depression, hopelessness and loss of control. Every individual who confronts the illness reacts differently according to personality, previous life experiences and coping style. Excessive denial, incompatibility, aggression and suicide threats are some of the reactions that nurses may encounter in the care of patients. The focus of the nurse's intervention on the health and illness of the individual is the center of the science of nursing. It differs in the reactions that people give to the disease because of the subjective nature of the disease and different experiences for each individual. It is also necessary for the nurse to assess the patient knowing the patient's reactions and knowing the factors that affect the psychosocial response, in order to give psychosocial care to the person who is experiencing a physical illness. For this reason, in the article, emphasis was placed on the importance of individual evaluation by giving importance to the basic concepts in psychosocial reactions given to diseases, to the physical disease stress as important indicators of emotional and behavioral responses, especially to disease perception, defense and coping mechanisms.
