Özet:

Art has an important place in the process of the modernization of Turkey during the Republican period. In this context, art in public spaces started with the application of sculptures to the public spaces/places where the public could easily reach for teaching and spreading the ideals of the Republic. From 1923 to the present day, many monuments and sculptures, numerous exhibitions and art projects were made in public spaces. These artistic activities gathered under the title of art in public spaces are also important in terms of observing the historical, sociological and economic processes of Turkey as much as they are important to following and understanding the artistic dynamics, its historical transformations and the contemporary art in Turkey. In this study named "Art in Public Spaces in Turkey After 1980", it is aimed to follow up the history of art in public spaces in Turkey with examples in terms of art works, projects and artistic activities and to show the transformations that took place in the period after 1980. In the study, firstly the contemporary concept of public space was tried to be explained in order to differentiate public space and public place. Then the understanding of the concept in Turkey was discussed comparatively and the situation was analysed. Subsequently, art in public spaces pre-1980 and post-1980 in Turkey was discussed using descriptive research methods. In this period, the development of public space art in Turkey, the approach of the state and the public to the subject has been examined through works and projects. When the subject is discussed, the books, articles and symposium papers on art in public spaces are consulted and referred to. Where necessary, graduate theses written on the subject have also been referred to. In addition, internet resources related to art activities related to the subject are used.
