Abstract:

Researchers and textile producers are searching biodegradable, sustainable and renewable fiber alternatives as an effective tool for compensating the world fiber demand while decreasing the possible negative effects of the textile industry on the environment owing to rising consumer awareness and demands about eco-friendly and organic textile materials. Soybean fiber, protein-based botanic fiber and derived from renewable soybean, is one of these promising fibers for more sustainable world textile production. Moreover, the usage of natural dye such as henna for the coloration of soybean fiber will add further contribution to sustainable ecological textile production. Therefore in this study, tie dyeing with natural henna (Lawsonia inermis) in company with black tea as a natural mordant via simultaneous mordanting technique were applied to ecofriendly soybean fiber knitted fabrics. Different blouses were designed from those soybean knitted fabrics tie dyed with henna. The designed blouse forms were studied as prototypes and all blouses were photographed and technical drawings were carried out. Moreover, the color, color fastness (washing, dry and wet rub fastness etc.) and antibacterial properties of soybean knitted blouses were also explored.
