Abstract:

Clothing (Apparel) is phenomenon for mankind not only for culturel development and with the objective to protect life; but also for broad cultural events originated during the developmental process. Clothing means use of cloth in different forms and style that cover the humans body, for accessories and make up. Geographical conditions, gender, life style and cultural effects has impact on clothing that has undergone many changes throughout the history. The Anatolian tradition of clothing is going to extinct besides of its very rich tradition. Clothing tradition of Malatya Province has been influenced by this general process of change. These garments are now no longer in use and will lead to extinction due to lack of interest by young people. The documentation and photography of colour, fabric, cutting, trimming and shaping of local clothes of Malatya province maket his research important fort he future of our new generation. Research was carried out in accordance to local clothing of Malatya province and traditional Anatolian customs. Garments were investigated according to the obsevation tags. Model features of garments and types of trimming showed resemblance with each other. Taking in account the traditional clothing in the museum, more importance was given to the traditional dress and kirtle with less importance to baggy trousers and skirts as they were less in number and not kept properly to the present.
