Abstract:

Battle of Çanakkale is the one of the most important victories in Turkish history. This Battle is being mentioned so much Turkish literature that, this proves the Battle of Çanakkale is very important for Turks. The aim of this article is to answer for which other countries the Battle of Çanakkale is important. Within this aim, beside in Turkish literature Battle of Çanakkale is written so much, how this Battle written in literatures of those countries who involved in this battle and accordingly, how kind of perception was created is discussed in the English and French literatures base. With this discussion, we will be able to evaluate, how the Battle of Çanakkale, which is a victory for Turks, is understood by Triple Entente, by examples from litaray texts about the Battle of Çanakkale in these literatures. Researches that we made on this subject showed that, Battle of Çanakkale was not handled so much in English and French literatures as in Turkish literature. In French literature, Battle of Çanakkale is recognized as strategic failure of English government. And in English literature, this theme was handled only during the Battle, so it is far from reflecting the real situation of the Battle of Çanakkale.
