In the direction of sustainable development objectives; effective, efficient and environmental-friendly use of energy resources are increasingly important. Therefore, the relationship between the annual growth of GDP in Turkey and the share of alternative energy use in total energy consumption is analyzed in this study using annual data obtained between the period 1980-2016. Firstly, the relationship between the variables by using the co-integration test coined by Granger and Yoon (2002) is tried to be detected. As a result of the Granger and Yoon hidden cointegration test, a long-term relationship between the negative component of alternative energy for Turkey and the positive component of economic growth, as well as between the positive component of economic growth and the negative component of alternative energy is detected. As a result of the Hatemi-J asymmetric causality test following the detection of the long-term relationship, a unilateral causality from the negative component of the alternative energy to the positive component of the economic growth is found.
