Özet:

As one of the leading names of drawing art, Azim Azimzade has a distinctive place in Azerbaijan drawing art at the beginning of the 20th century. His drawings have mirrored to society in terms of the selected subjects. He mainly gives place to contradictions, problems in the subjects with social dimension of the period with his genre containing sharp humor and irony. From this aspect, his works include a mission that leads and provides contribution to the social, cultural, democratic development of his country. He made drawings including society criticism on the subjects such as the place of women in society, the gap between poor and rich lives. As well as his theatre decors, he has created works in famous humor and irony journal "Molla Nasreddin" with his caricatures related to social structure. "Molla Nasreddin" journal is a humor journal which is published in Azerbaijan by Celil Memedkuluzade at the beginning of the 20th century. During its publication of 25 years lasting since 1906, it published the social, communal, political problems in Azerbaijan and countries in the regions with its critical genre. During its publication period, it became effective among the public and societies of neighbouring countries not any more than any journals. One of the most important factors in the formation of this effect, is to express his critical approach to social and political subjects of the period with a satirizing humor and his power of expression in his caricatures which allowed him to forward his message visually to the illiterate persons. As well his social role in illuminating the local community together with embodied poets, authors, intellectuals and painters, he made contribution to the development of drawing art of the Azerbaijan period. Due to the lack of any sufficient resources in our country related with the content of this research, it is considered that the analysis of the drawings in the humor journal and works of the painters in terms of social content and visual aspect shall provide contribution to the literature in visual arts. The research has been done through the literature scanning with qualitative method. In the study, due to lack of a wide literature in Turkey about painter Azim Azimzade and the visual aspects of the drawings in Molla Nasreddin" journal and due to the internet-weighted articles with the Cyrillic alphabet, it became compulsory to reach the findings with visual comparisons and content through the translation of web-originated qualitative researches. The obtained findings have been discussed in terms of social and visual analysis of the journal and the drawings of Azimzade.
