ABSTRACT Abstraction is the process of designing by stripping an object of its existing features in reality or of its objective content among its features, detaching in thought what is undetachable in reality. The concept of real or reality, on the other hand, can mean many things, according to the Turkish Language Association. The first meaning is what is not a lie, what is right, what is real. The second is what exists as a situation, an object or a qualification, whose existence cannot be denied, a fact, genuine. Another one is what exists as in the nature, what reflects the nature as it is. According to a philosophical definition, it is something that exists as an opposition to what is thought, designed, imagined. In this framework, if “real” is what is known by everybody, what is as in the nature, or the objective world, then “abstraction” is what depends on the feelings and senses of an individual rather than the real objects, what is created according to an individual or in one’s personal world. It is the process of simplification of entities such as a human, an animal and similar entities referring to real entities that can be held or seen, in a way that their forms can no longer be recognized. From a stylistic perspective, this process needs an entirely individual experience. Conforming to general social form patterns is out of question. The concept of abstraction in art has become the name of a style over time. Nevertheless, the concepts of “abstraction” and “reality” have changed too much during the artistic process in the course of designing artworks. It can be thought that reality is a concept that never changes but in art, it can be said that form changes occur due to the realities of people. The way an artist comprehends what is around him, his interests or changes occurring determines his attitude in the moment of artistic creation. Or it can be said that the form differences seen in art transform into artistic statements by resulting in economic changes, religious opinions or social realities.
