Bu araştırmada, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun 19. yüzyılın ikinci yarısında dış borçlanma nedenleri, devleti borçlanmaya iten iç ve dış faktörler, borçlanma sebebiyle giderek derinleşen mali bunalımlar, verilen kapitülasyonlar, dış ticaret antlaşmaları, kapitalist Avrupa sermayesinin Osmanlı’yı nasıl yarı sömürge bir devlet haline getirdiği, bir buz dağının güne nedeniyle çözülmesi gibi, Osmanlı Devleti’nin de dış borçlar nedeniyle her geçen gün çözülerek nasıl yok edildiği, Osmanlı’nın sosyal, ekonomik ve siyasi iflası, her defasında yenilgiyle sonuçlanan savaşlar yüzünden sürekli toprak kaybı, kısaca dünyanınbüyük imparatorluğunun tarih sahnesinden silinmesi ve bıraktığı dış borç mirası ayrıntılı olarak incelenmiştir.
