Günümüz dünyasında ekonominin temel taşları kabul edilen firmaların karşılaştıklarıönemli sorunların başında finansman sorunu gelmektedir. Bu çalışma ile finansman sorunu olan firmaların zorlu rekabet koşullarında alternatif bir finansman yöntemi olan girişim sermayesi modeli hakkında hangi düzeyde bilgi sahibi oldukları ve modelin kullanılması ile nasıl sonuçlar elde edildiğinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada, özellikle İstanbul ilinde faaliyet gösteren ve ihracat yapan firmalar tercih edilmiştir. Çalışmayı somutlaştırmak amacıyla 401 işletmeye anket çalışması uygulanmış, çapraz tablolar oluşturulmuş, tablolardaki veriler ışığında ki-kare yöntemi kullanılarak birçok hipotez test edilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda; birçok firmanın finansman sorunu yaşadığı, bu sorunu gidermek amacıyla banka kredisine başvurduğu görülmüştür. Firmaların alternatif bir yöntem olan girişim sermayesini çok fazla bilmediği, bilenlerin ise kullanım açısından tercih etmediği anlaşılmıştır.
