Özet: Bu çalışmada, Helsinki Zirvesi'nde Avnıpa Birliği (AB) ne aday ülke olarak ilan edilen Türkiye'de, tam üyelik için gerekli reformların gerçekleştirilmesine yönelik, bankacılıkla ilgili AB müktesebatına uyum alanında yapılan ve yapılması planlanan düzenlemeler ele alınmaktadır. Türk bankacılık mevzuatı, mevcut AB bankacılık mevzuatı ile karşılaştırıldığında, bazı düzenlemelerin, direktiflere uyumlu hale getirilmiş olduğu, bazılarında değişiklikler yapılması gerektiği gözlenmektedir. Yetkililerin, bankacılık sektörünün yeniden yapılandırılması sürecinin devamı konusunda gösterecekleri kararlılık, sektörün güçlendirilmesi ve AB üyesi ülkeler ile rekabet edebilirlik seviyesinin artın İması açısından önem arz etmektedir. Abstract; The conclusions of the European Council of Helsinki in December 1999 have officially designated Turkey as a candidate country. The regulations related to the banking system which Turkey needs to undertake to adapt the EU acquis on the way to membership were examined in this study. It is observed that Turkey should fulfill some regulations in its development to adapt piece by piece the EU banking acquis although it has already fulfilled some others. Deeisiveness of the authority on continuity of the reconstruction process of the banking sector is highly important to make the sector more powerful and to strenghten its competitiveness with those of the EU countries.
