Abstract:

Ibrahim Muteferrika, who established the first semiofficial printing house in Ottoman Empire, has been a subject to many researches both in our country and also in abroad. The information about his life especially before his coming to the lands of the Ottoman Empire is very limited.According to many sources and researchers’ claims that; while he was bringing up as a Calvinist priest, he was held captive by Turks and than after being a Muslim , he got rid of this slavery and came to many important positions in his career. In our study, by mentioning these general claims, we tried to interpret not only the life of Ibrahim Muteferrika before his coming to the Ottoman Empire and his scientific aspect, but also the historical events, important people and politics of that period and before. Thus, we tried to make a little contribution to that dark period about Ibrahim Muteferrika.
