The Epic of Oguz Khan has an important place in Turkish Culture History because Oguz Khan put forth some rules and requirements in order to reveal and realize the idea of world domination. There are two basic views for the historic personality and his identity. First, it is the view that Mete is the Great Hun Khan. Second, it is the view that it pertains to an older period, that is, to the period of Scythians by setting forth the conquest movements that were told in the epic. Our conviction is that the Epic of Oguz Khan in Uigur language contains some historic layers within itself and it indicates an older period than the Period of Hun as the preliminary period. This period corresponds to the period of Alp Er Tunga, the Great Turkish Conqueror, who is also called by Iranians as Afrasyab. Thus, a relation has been able to be established between Oguz Khan and Alp Er Tunga in Turkish life of thought and Turkish state tradition.
