Abstract:

Grandparenthood is a significant social role. Positive relations between children and grandchildren make the elderly individual have a tie with life. Grandparents have a significant place in the life of a child. In general, a grandchild is a source of pride for them. They behave compassionately to them. It is a great pleasure to experience the memories they had with their children once again with the grandchildren. In this context, it was aimed to investigate the views of elderly individuals over the interaction between the elderly and children. A total sum of 300 elderly individuals living in Ankara and chosen randomly and having a grandchild were included in the study. The data of the research were collected through “Question Form” that was prepared by the researchers, aiming at the evaluation of the views of the elderly people over elderly and child interaction. The views of elderly individuals over the positive and negative points of elderly and child interaction were analysed through t test and analysis of variance (ANOVA). At the end of the research, it was found with regard to the views of the elderly people over elderly and child interaction that the item of “I like to spoil my grandchildren” was affected by gender status while that of “I like buying gifts for my grandchildren” was affected by the status of education.
