Abstract:

As in the case of other countries' literature, ‘history’ has also been considered a very rich material in the Turkish Literature at all times and authors have always taken advantage of these accumulation in different times with different tendencies. Today, the novel “Şahsenem” which deals with the Armenian question and the deportation process, has * Afyon Kocatepe Üni. Fen-Edebiyat Fak. Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı Böl., [email protected] a highly controversial topic of today’s world, emerged in the atmosphere of the First World War unlike to its counterparts.. While the novel explains the events occured during 1914-1920 from the diary of an Ottoman Pasha, the second part discusses the 1970s up to recent times letting the readers to have a chance to evaluate the incidents from a historical perspective. The classic novel Şahsenem perceives and evaluates the concerned issue with a large number of real or fictional novel characters. The novel Şahsenem is of an important work which not only overlaps but also goes beyond the official discourse with its proposals to solve the problem while giving ‘information’ and ‘consciousness’ on a historical event and motivating the people to search due to legitimate doubts that it has raised without neglecting the aesthetic integrity of a literary work.
