The Grand National Assembly had encountered numerous obstacles stemmed by the internal and external issues; at the same time the İstanbul Government had been under the influence and domination of the occupying forces; however the Grand National Assembly had been able to maintain communication with the İstanbul Government. The GNA had been able to fight against with all of the obstacles with a significant force and determinationThe Ankara Government had terminated official communication with the Istanbul Government; had financially supported the families that had suffered in various ways due to forced emigration. Finally Damat Ferit Pasha, –who had betrayed the National Struggle and the Ottoman State, had been expelld from the citizenship and than sentenced to death by the İstiklal Courts. At the same time, those who were in favor of the Sevr treaty had been announced as betraitors of the country. A law had been issued for those people as well. The Ankara Government had officially siezed control in Istanbul on November the 5th, and thus had consolidated its political power over the rest of the country, and this struggle had resulted with the departure of Vahdettin the Caliph from Istanbul on 16 November 1922.Finally, the foreign forces/states had no choice but to accept the new situation.
