Comments and Suggestions on Preachers and Sermons from the Past to the Present This article, having explained the terms “preacher” and “sermon”, deals with sermons given by preachers of Ottoman State, deficiency of preachers in the last period of the state, schools established in order to educate and train preachers such as Madrasah al-Wâizîn (school of preachers) and Madrasah al-Irshad (school of guidance) and the failure of the project because of the poor conditions of the period. In the period of Republic, there were many discomforts due to the oppressions on the religious education. In the multi-party period, İmam Hatip High schools and other higher education institutions were established, graduates of these schools started to take the office of preachers. Therefore, there is apparent advancement in terms of quantity and quality. The article ends with the qualities that preachers should have and method for sermons
