In this study, the relation between orientalist point of view and the Muslim Turkish community and how this issue was dealt with in the early 20th century by Omer Seyfettin in his story titled “Gizli Mabet” (Hidden Sanctuary) has been analysed. There is criticism of Western-oriented orientalist thought in the story which is fictionalised around three figures. These criticisms has been put forward through the characters’ function and a number of objects and concepts. After general information about the orientalist ideology has given in the introduction, the elements/criticism of the orientalist ideology in “Gizli Mabet” has been dealt with in the context of “human, place and concepts/objects” in part of analysis. In the conclusion, the data given in the story has been evaluated.
