Abstract:

In her novels novelist and storyteller Sevinç Çokum has mentioned the big social and political events that took place in the last 150 years of Turkey following a chronological order. In this context, the author analyses the May 27, 1960 military coup in The Star Resisting the Darkness. Societal background, implementation, impacts on the society and the events afterwards of a military coup are demonstrated with an artistic style and sensitivity. In this study, the characteristic features of the novel have been determined and discussed regarding the structure, content and style.
