3 Kasım 2002 tarihinde yapılan erken genel seçimler, Türk siyasal hayatında köklü değişikliklerin yaşanmasına sahne olmuştur. Ülke kırk iki yıl aradan sonra ilk kez iki partili bir meclise kavuşurken, son on yıla damgasını vuran çok partili koalisyonlar dönemini de sona erdirmiştir. Bu çalışmada, halkın yarısından çoğunun bir önceki seçime göre parti değiştirdiği kritik 2002 seçimlerinde Türk seçmenin parti tercihlerinin altında yatan sosyo-ekonomik ve sosyo-psikolojik dinamikler analiz edilmeye çalışılmaktadır. Makalede tarafımızdan seçim öncesinde ve sonrasında gerçekleştirilen kapsamlı kamuoyu araştırma verileri kullanılmıştır. Bu çerçevede seçmen davranışı analizleri için Schmitt (1975) tarafından geliştirilen siyasette “dost-düşman” ya da “biz ve onlar” ayrımına dayanan parti kimliğinin seçmen davranışını yönlendirmede önemli bir role sahip olduğu değerlendirilmektedir.
