Textbooks, which are the most well-known of the teaching and learning tools and expected to have some qualities, are one of the research topics to be examined. That are based on different perspectives in the literature related to the study of textbooks, but it could be specified that there weren’t enough study that analyze textbooks in terms of multiple representations and transitions among them. The aim of this study was to investigate the uses of and transitions between different representations in 6th, 7th and 8th grade science and technology textbooks. Two each science and technology textbooks which of different publisher, were approved by Chairman of the Board of Education, were examined in this study. In the study document analysis was used. According to findings it was seen that the textbooks which were examined, mostly benefit text representations to provide information, as well as photos and pictures representations; accordingly transitions are insufficient which used in association between representation types. Additionally, it was stated that the quality of the representation types that were used in the textbooks did not respond the expectations that were set by the curriculum. According to the results, it was recommended to the textbook review commission and program developers to pay more attention for configuring textbooks based on the objectives stated in this study and also to the researchers for studies to be done after.
