The curriculum followed in the Turkish Language and Literature courses together with the selected samples and authors has occasionally been under debate and criticism The most disputed issues are the textbooks and the fact that the authors of the texts included in the textbooks are not contemporary and that more emphasis is given to old periods than the contemporary ones The Ministry of Education has already started to work with a view modifying the content of the courses With the interest of the press the issue has been under discussion for about three months This paper focuses on the discussions in the press in a chronological order The paper reports on the opinions of those participated in the debate and evaluates these opinions from a variety of aspects In the evaluation the right opinions are justified those considered wrong are presented with the reasons and some different opinions are stated Doing so the paper aims at contributing to the process of effective modification of the content of literature courses Key words: Literature courses and contemporaneity modern contents in the literature courses
