In this study elementary students’ 5th 6th; 7th and 8th achievement levels solving strategies and errors were identified at nonroutine problems in ordinal numbers This research is a descriptive study done within the technique of survey model The study was applied to 607 students including 5th 6th 7th and 8th level students in the center of Adana province All the students were given a question set including 26 word prolems The problems were divided into three parts as Type 1 Type 2 and Type 3 When data analysis were examined as it was expected the students from the all levels were much more successful in the Type1 questions than the other types Moreover it was seen that the students’ success in Type 2 and Type3 questions were very low in contrast to Type 1 questions An qualitative analysis of errors on problems show that 57 of errors were 1 In general students used informal stragies rarely approximately 4 3 Keywords: Ordinal Number Solving stratigies word problem
