The study was design to identify whether a significant difference exists between the academic achievement levels of the secondary school students in geometry course and the thinking styles they prefer A total of 324 students attending the 10th grade in 3 different Anatolian High Schools in the city of Adana were chosen for the sampling of the study Of the students 157 were girls and 167 were boys As the data collection tool Scale for thinking style was utilized The scale composed of 13 subscales and 94 items The academic achievement of the participants in the geometry courses was determined according to their 2005 2006 education period first term school grade reports For data analysis independent samples t test and one way ANOVA statistical measurements were used As a result it was found out that a significant difference exists in terms of thinking styles of the students related to their achievement levels in the geometry course” Furthermore it was figured out that the male participants mostly preferred anarchic global and conservative thinking styles in respect to the female participants In addition related to the results of the achievement test it was pointed out that the participants who have the high achievement level in geometry mostly preferred monarchic and liberal thinking styles Key words: Thinking styles academic achievement geometry achievement
