The purpose of this study was to define the teacher candidates’ views on project task preparation process in terms of mathematic course and the challenges they encounter during this process The population of this study consisted of 169 first grade teacher candidates who were joining the project task preparation process in Basic Mathematic II Course at the Department of Elementary Education in the spring semester of 2010 2011 Project Task Scale PTS which was developed by the researcher was used as the data collection tool In the study descriptive statistics exploratory factor analysis independent sample t test and one way analysis of variance were used for analyzing the quantitative data while qualitative data was analyzed via content analysis At the end of the research it was concluded that while project task preparation process enhanced the teacher candidates’ thinking and investigation skills it also promotes their professional developments Furthermore in the study no significant difference was found between the project task preparation process and the variables of gender academic achievement and the high school graduation Key Words: Project task Teacher candidates Alternative assessment
