The aim of this research is to compare reading interests and habits of elementary school teacher candidates The sample of the study was chosen from Adnan Menderes University Education Faculty in Aydın and in Bursa Totally 465 prospective teachers participated in the study Data collecting instruments were 8220;Reading Interest Scale 8221; 8220;Adult Form for Reading Habits Questionnaire 8221; developed by Dökmen 1990 and 8220;personal information form 8221; which was prepared by the researchers In this study percentage distribution mean standard deviation and maximum minimum value of data were calculated In the cases when the sample showed normal distribution x2 analyses ANOVA t test Dunnett 8217;s C were applied In the cases when sample did not show normal distribution Kruskal Wallis H and Mann Whitney U tests were done And also correlation coefficient were calculated The results of study indicate that reading interests of the participants were at medium level and reading habits of participants were at insufficient level It was observed that primary school teacher candidates prefer reading 8220;newspapers various journals humors arts culture and science books 8221; And also the results were shown that primary school teacher candidates read 2 books and 2 4 journals per month According to the primary school teacher candidates it was due to high costs of the books not having enough time and being tired It was observed that there was a significant correlation between the number of books and journals being read per month and the number of books possessed Key Words: Reading Prospective Elementary School Teacher Reading interest Reading habits
