So many results that aren't mine?

Abstract:

Nowadays, education system requires rethinking because of certain economic, social and political changes. At this point, one of the purposes of schools has become to get adapted to changing environment. Recently, schools had to be more integrated to the environment and the expectations of the society from schools got increased. Hence, what should be the purposes of schools, how to evaluate the degree of achievement of these purposes, how to measure the quality of schools have been some of the issues that must be reconsidered. In traditional school inspections, school evaluation models were focused on only the control and achievement of students and teachers but nowadays new evaluation models that involve all stakeholders and school autonomy are required. As a result, school evaluation studies have been the common subject in many countries to increase the quality of schools. In other words, the issues, such as what the objectives of education are and how to evaluate the degree of reaching these objectives or how to evaluate the expected outcomes that can be reached have become the issues that must be re-considered. It is possible to claim that, school evaluations studies started to come out to provide the accountability of schools and to have them improve in all areas particularly in learning. Today, school evalution is very important in terms of knowing where the schools stand and what the targets of them can be in future. However, the question of how to evaluate the schools meets us at this point. In literature, it can clearly be seen that, even if all present school evaluation models have different approches, the main purpose of all is to improve the quality of education. In this study, the purposes of school evaluation, the relationship between school evaluation and improving the quality of education and school evalution types are examined.
