Starting from April, 2015, Metal Sector has witnessed a cycle of struggles and protests which was in an unusual manner in the context of labour history in Turkey. Three main demands of the actions were: 1) Enhancement of wages, 2) Free selection of stewards by workers, 3) Job security for the elected stewards and activist workers. Beyond the fact that these protests were against the authorized union (Türk-Metal), actions were directly related with the shop-floor union organization and the multiemployer collective bargaining system. In an unusual form (factory occupation) for the Turkish industrial relations, workers’ actions were not organized by or with an unwilling backing of the authorized union but against the union with a unique demand for an amendment in the collective agreement. Authorized trade union apparatus as a whole including the shop stewards of the union was targeted.trade union. Workers’ anger against the authorized union was not limited with the outcomes of the collective agreement, but also workers have targeted the status and function of the shop stewards of the Türk-Metal in the workplaces. This orientation towards a democratic and strong shop-floor union organization should be understood as an attempt to change the shop-floor worker organization’s role in the factory regime. As the protests started as a reaction against a flaw in the multi-employer bargaining system which has stemmed from the competition between rival unions, it is necessary to discuss the bargaining system in the sector as a vehicle constituted for controlling the workers
