Abstract:

Culture, consist of the all features that distinguish communities and give a different identity to each community. Communities need to be analyzed in a good way to know the elements of culture.The rıtuals related to death and dead vary according to cultural characteristics of each community.As it carries the meaning of world life come to an end , death ,which is one of the transition periods of human life ,carries different importance for the people in historical process.Death has an important and wide place in the cultural life of Turkish.In both the pre-Islamic beliefs and after Islam ,the rıtuals related to death appears to be an important issue in Turkish culture. In this study, the rıtuals related to Sam Village and its surrounding, that is linked to Sehitkamil district in Gaziantep city where various Turkmen tribes and Turkish clans settled in the past, were examined.
