Abstract:

The aim of this study is to demonstrate the ability of psychological consultants to support the five-factor theories of personality characteristics (extrusion, emotional imbalance, soft headline, responsibility and experience openness). The participants in the study are graduate students who continue to the last class of the psychological counseling and guidance program of nine different universities (Hacettepe, Ankara, Mersin, Pamukkale, Nine September, Inönü, Marmara, Ege and Abant İzzet Baysal University). The study was conducted on a total of 353 students, including 241 girls and 112 men. For the purpose of gathering the research data, the Barrio, Myers and Sweeney (2006) developed and adapted to Turkish by Arıcıoğlu and Korkut Owen (2008) preferred cognitive styles inventory and Bacanlı, Ilhan and Lion (2009) developed on the basis of the five factors theory. In the study, a standard multi-regression analysis was used to show the ability of psychological consultants to support their styles. The research findings show the sensual-deventive and concrete-sustainable help styles of externality; the responsibility's concrete-sustainable and abstract help styles; the experience's discernment puts the abstract and dialectic-systemic help styles in a positive direction; and the emotional imbalance puts the sensual-deventive and abstract help styles in a negative direction.
