Günümüzde hızla artan motorlu taşıt sayısı, bunların uzun veya kısa süreli bırakılacakları garaj ve otopark gibi yerleri zorunlu ve önemli kılmış ve bir meslek olarak garaj ve otopark işletmeciliğini doğurmuştur. Garaj ve otoparka taşıtlarını bırakanlar, geri almalarına kadar bunların işletmeci tarafından gözetim altında tutulacağını ve herhangi bir zarara uğramadan kendilerine verileceğine güvenirler. Esasen bu sıradan bir beklenti olmayıp, garaj ve otopark işleten ile taşıtını bırakan arasındaki sözleşmenin bir gereği, hatta amacıdır. Bu sebeple, motorlu taşıt sahibine ait eşyanın yok olması, zarara uğraması veya çalınması halinde bundan garaj ve otopark işleten sorumlu olmalıdır. Bu sorumluluk Türk Hukukunda özel hükümlerle düzenlenmiştir.

Therefore, the owner of the motor vehicle must be responsible for the loss, damage or theft of the property of the owner of the motor vehicle. This responsibility is regulated by special provisions in Turkish law.
